Costs Overview
Read the Costs overview as a readiness board for the FinOps capabilities included in your plan.
What this tab is for
Costs Overview is the first-read FinOps board. It summarizes spend, trend, data availability, plan-relevant readiness, provider setup, active signals, and the next best action.
It should tell you whether your cost data is usable for the plan you purchased.
Readiness rules
The readiness board evaluates only capabilities that apply to your plan and permissions. It should not penalize a workspace for advanced features that are locked by plan.
Examples:
- Forecast readiness matters when forecasting is included.
- Allocation readiness matters when allocation is included.
- Export readiness matters when exports or reports are included.
- Usage drill-down matters when event-level investigation is included.
How to use it
- Confirm provider keys or gateway ingestion are configured.
- Check whether spend and trend data exist.
- Review readiness rows and only treat plan-included failures as action items.
- Open Data health when pricing, freshness, or metadata is incomplete.
- Open Cost signals when anomalies or risks are active.
Good state
A healthy Costs Overview usually has fresh data, priced usage, clean metadata, no critical cost signals, and at least one clear path from spend to owner.
Advanced sections can still be locked. That is expected when the plan does not include them.
